4 Best 18-Inch Gaming Laptops

Buying Guides Gaming Laptop April 13, 2023 by Sid Natividad

Laptops inherently have smaller screens compared to their desktop counterparts, but that gap appears to be slowly closing, especially with the advent of current-gen 18-inch gaming laptops. 17-inch gaming laptops no longer hold the crown as the highest-end devices right now are the fabled 18-inch models.

Granted, they’re still not as popular as the more compact and lighter 15-inch gaming laptops. Laptops’ biggest strength, after all, is their portability. Still, all that hardware power needs a more fitting representation, and nothing represents processing power better than a bigger screen.

So if you’re looking for a high-end or enthusiast mobile battlestation, then these 18-inch gaming laptops are the best flagship devices you can have right now.

  • Display: 165Hz 18″ QHD Nebula 2560 x 1600

You know the times are a-changing when our best option is what we would have once considered premium. The Alienware m18 directly from Dell’s website offers a competitive price at sub $3,500 while also offering top-of-the-line specs.

There’s an RTX 4090, a 13th-gen i9, and everything else that complements that kind of power in a gaming laptop. The QHD display might leave some wanting, especially those clamoring for a 200+Hz refresh rate, but let’s be honest here, you don’t really need that much if you’re not competing in a serious e-sports tournament.

Though if you really do need high refresh rates, there’s an option on the product page to change the resolution to FHD that runs on 480Hz, that’s all the refresh rate you’ll need to be competitive.

Asus wouldn’t be late for this kind of party, so rather than making a new product line, it made an 18-inch version for the ROG Strix SCAR, one of its strongest contenders. As you can expect, the specs are stellar and top-of-the-line. It’s Asus, of course, so also expect the price to be a bit higher.

But it’s worth it if you value the kind of style that Asus reserves for its highest-end products. The RGB for this device is stunning under the right lighting. There’s a bottom RGB, giving the device an ethereal glow in a dimly-lit room. You can also expect the standard Asus durability here, such is the brand known for.

  • Display: 18″ 2560 x 1600 240 Hz IPS Display

Razer also has a new offering in its Blade lineup and that would be the Razer Blade 18. The name’s subtle and concise, but Razer’s reputation precedes it. Its new Blade lineup features a mini-LED display, one of the fresh new display techs around to rival the premium OLED.

Such a spec will set you back significantly since it’s an expensive piece of new tech, so you can always opt for the traditional IPS display running at 240 Hz and QHD. Sadly, the RTX 4090 variant is temporarily out of stock but should restock soon.

Acer is not backing down from the fight with its Predator Helios flagship and this time around, they’re trying to undercut all the others by including a Mini-LED display at a more affordable price point.

The specs are actually comparable to Razer’s, except Acer’s Mini-LED display is only at QHD while still maintaining a 250Hz refresh rate. Overall, it’s a solid choice for those who want the best specs and the new tech without spending too much.
