The best balance of performance and price still goes to the mid-range category when it comes to computers. They are still affordable for the normal professional, and they allow for gaming in ultra or maxed-out settings. Of course, not all working people have the time and fortitude to build their own custom gaming computers. That’s where a prebuilt gaming PC comes in.
They might not have the fanciest features for the current gaming tech scene, but they certainly pack a punch when it comes to processing power. In fact, you can even use a mid-range prebuilt gaming PC for productivity work. They’re definitely not just mid despite being called mid-range.

As for what counts as mid-range, anything priced from $1,000 to $1,400 or so is what we consider as mid-range. Beyond that, you’re trudging in the high-end territory.
Again, do note that these prebuilt gaming PC setups don’t come with a monitor, mouse, or keyboard. You will need to buy those separately.
Skytech Shiva Gaming PC Desktop

- Ryzen 5 5600X allows for even more performance headroom when overclocked
- High-end GPU setup at mid-range price point
- Decent storage
- Gold-rated PSU
- Minimalist InWin case
- Tempered glass side panel
- Comes with RGB fans
CONS
- Questional front panel ventilation
- Stock CPU cooler
- Cable management could be better
- CPU / Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
- GPU / Graphics Card: Nvidia RTX 3070 8GB GDDR
- RAM / Memory: 16GB DDR4 3200
- Storage: 1TB NVMe SSD
- Dimensions: 26.25 x 25.75 x 20.25 inches
As always, the best PC setups in their budget range are the ones that punch way above their weight class. In this case, the Nvidia RTX 3070 is actually a high-end card, except the whole package is being sold at a mid-range price (mostly thanks to a presumably permanent sale). So you will want to grab hold of this one ASAP.
They’re bound to be out of stock soon because the whole thing’s a steal. Most of the time, a gaming PC with an RTX 3070 costs upwards of $1,500– this one is sub $1,400. It’s complete, and it’s more than ready for something like 1440p resolution. And you can even stretch it up to 4K resolution if you already have the monitor; that’s the processing power of the RTX 3070 for you.
Other goodies included in this setup include the top-inverted case with an included gold-rated PSU, white color, case fans, and decent storage.
Skytech Azure Gaming PC Desktop
PROS
- Ryzen 5 5600X allows for even more performance headroom when overclocked
- RTX 3060 Ti offers the best price to performance ratio among 2022 GPUs
- Decent storage
- Comes with RGB lighting and fans
- Gold-rated PSU
- Decent cable management
- Tempered glass side panel
CONS
- Stock CPU cooler
- Questional front panel ventilation
- CPU / Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
- GPU / Graphics Card: Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti
- RAM / Memory: 16G DDR4
- Storage: 1TB NVMe SSD
- Dimensions: 23.5 x 22.3 x 12.3 inches
In case the best option goes out of stock (and it will pretty soon), you can always opt for the second best. That would be the Skytech Azure which comes with an RTX 3060 Ti. It’s in the mid-range category but it’s only slightly less powerful than the RTX 3070; in fact, the performance difference is only around five to 10 percent between the two cards.
That very well means you can use this gaming PC for 1440p gaming as it’s highly capable of that feat. The AMD Ryzen 5 5600X– if overclocked, can also further close the performance gap between the RTX 3060 Ti and the RTX 3070, so you’re getting a lowkey awesome deal here for the price.
Only, you might need to spend a bit more on a more robust CPU cooler that’s for overclocking, since this model also comes with a stock Ryzen cooler; it is unanimously considered poor in performance.
Asus ROG Strix G15 Gaming Desktop PC
PROS
- High-end CPU at mid-range price point
- Decent storage
- Comes with an ROG B660 motherboard with huge heatsinks
- Has a handle for easier transportation and movement
- Transparent side panel
- Decent cable management
- RGB lighting
- Comes with fans
- Has a headphone hook
- Quiet (so they claim)
CONS
- Pricey without a sale
- Aggressive gamer aesthetics might not be for everyone
- CPU / Processor: Intel Core i7-12700F
- GPU / Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 12GB
- RAM / Memory: 16GB DDR4
- Storage: 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD
- Dimensions: 7.28 x 16.57 x 19.61 inches
If you’re primarily a multimedia professional and gaming is only secondary to your needs, then the ROG Strix G15 might be the better deal. It’s a powerful offering from Asus that comes equipped with an 8-core i7-12700F which is more than capable even if there’s already a 13th Gen successor.
Normally, a setup like this would be priced much higher in the high-end budget bracket but thanks to the holidays and the advent of Intel’s 13th Gen CPUs, it’s not at a sub-$1,200 price point.
The GPU here is notably less robust than the RTX 3060 Ti, but it’s still an excellent option for 1080p gaming. Expect to render ultra settings for most games at that resolution.
ROG Strix G10 Gaming Desktop PC
PROS
- Decent overall mid-range specs
- Decent storage
- Transparent side panel option
- RGB lighting
- Comes with fans
CONS
- Questionable front panel ventilation
- Decent cable management
- Case design is hit or miss with the bulge
- CPU / Processor: Intel Core i7-11700
- GPU / Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 12GB
- RAM / Memory: 16GB DDR4
- Storage: 1TB PCIe SSD
- Dimensions: 7.1 x 16.9 x 16.9 inches
Of course, if you’re not a multimedia professional and mostly use your PC for gaming, then you really don’t need that much of a powerful CPU. An i5 or a previous-generation i7 would do well for your gaming needs since most games rely on the GPU instead of the CPU. In this case, the ROG Strix G10 is the more conservative option.
It’s more or less similar to the ROG Strix G15 except it comes with an i7-11700 which is mostly just on par with a 12th Gen i5. The case is more minimalist and the motherboard is certainly cheaper, which is why there’s currently a big sale for this rig at the time of writing.
It also comes with an RTX 3060, so no worries if you’re gaming at 1080p. You can run most games at ultra settings. The signature Asus AuraSync RGB lighting is more muted here, but that’s to be expected.
Skytech Blaze 3.0 Gaming PC Desktop
PROS
- Decent overall mid-range specs
- Good front panel mesh with removable filter
- PSU shroud at the bottom for a cleaner look
- RGB lighting and fans
- Good cable management
- Comes with a CPU air cooler
- They promise no bloatware apps
- Tempered glass side panel
CONS
- Storage could be better
- CPU / Processor: Intel Core i5 12400F
- GPU / Graphics Card: Nvidia RTX 3060
- RAM / Memory: 16G DDR4
- Storage: 500GB NVME SSD
- Dimensions: 22.8 x 21.9 x 13 inches
If you want something reliable and more or less in the current-gen when it comes to specifications, then you can’t go wrong with the Skytech Blaze 3.0. It comes equipped with the Core i5-12400F which is the best CPU for the price-to-performance ratio.
The GPU is the usual mid-range poster boy, the RTX 3060 and as mentioned before, it’s still a capable workhorse for today’s standards, especially at 1080p. This does have a good advantage over the Asus options, and that would be the gold-rated PSU for less power wastage.
Since it’s Skytech, they have bundled in a gaming mouse and keyboard though don’t expect those freebie peripherals to be of high quality. It’s a good gaming PC no matter the angle you look at it.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Why are mid-range PC setups the best?
Because most PC components will struggle to keep up with the current trends after four to five years anyway, prompting you to replace or upgrade them. In such cases, you're better off with mid-range components. -
Are prebuilt gaming PCs customizable?
Yes. You can upgrade and take them apart as you would a normal custom PC that you built. Though be aware of warranty restrictions before you open a prebuilt gaming PC.
